Capri

The bizarre island is a part of the Italian province of Naples and is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation, caves and grottoes are hidden in its rugged coastline. The Blue grotto is the most popular among tourists. The grotto has the only entrance from the sea, and you can get into it only by boat. The entrance to the grotto is low, and the bottom is flooded by the sea, that is why the light penetrating into the grotto gives the water a beautiful azure color. Found in the grotto Roman statues indicate that this place was known to the ancient Romans.
The main city on the island is Capri. It is a small village with old houses and churches. Many houses are marked with plaques, because at different times such famous people as Maxim Gorky, Oscar Wilde, Ivan Bunin, Winston Churchill, Ivan Turgenev, Vladimir Lenin and many others lived here. Anacapri is the second most significant city of the island.
Emperor Augustus called the island of Capri «Paradise of idleness», and Ivan Aivazovsky, inspired by the local beauty, painted «Moonlit night at Capri.» Indeed, this remote from the mainland island with incredibly beautiful nature attracts lovers of history and art to open its marvelous panoramas, ruins of Roman buildings, picturesque villages, temples, palaces and grottoes.
