Apulia, Italy
The historical main building of the Masseria San Domenico dates back to the XIV century and was used by the Knights of Malta, whose main center in Puglia was S. Stefano, as a watch tower against Saracens’ attacks.
The Masseria San Domenico encompasses this historic main building with its ancient slits and chimneys whose architectural structures developed around the beginning of the XX century following the needs of the agricultural activities. Surrounded by 60 hectares of ancient olive trees and orchards, and keeping intact the original architectural structure, the Masseria San Domenico has been restored and converted into a refined hotel. The Masseria San Domenico has been in activity since 1996.
Against the backdrop of the blue Mediterranean sky and sea, Masseria San Domenico lies only 500 metres from the Adriatic coast in the Italy’s Puglia region, its whitewashed building standing amidst centenarian olive groves. The building itself dates back to the 15th century, when it was used by the Knights of Malta as a watch-tower.
After a careful restoration, completed respecting the old shapes and the original building materials, the tower was converted into a 5 star deluxe resort whose charm recalls the history of the region, a land where Eastern and Mediterranean cultures have flourished together.
Masseria San Domenico offers boutique-style intimacy bound with first class facilities such as a magnificent outdoor free-form swimming pool, a state-of-the-art Thalassotherapy Spa, a lovely beach, two tennis courts, a modern gym and a challenging 18-hole golf course.

The essential element of thalassotherapy is sea water. Its salinity is very rich in minerals and the abundance of trace elements also makes it a primary source of purification for the human organism.
In order to obtain the maximum of these benefits, international thalassotherapeutic experts-particularly in Thalgo-have performed research to extract the greatest benefits from sea water, while keeping in mind its nature and potentiality.
The water used in our center is drawn from a deep underground stratum, which sits at about 400 meters below the sea level.
This water is also completely purified by means of filters and is then heated in our center’s circuit using the most up-to-date equipment.
Another extremely beneficial sea material is seaweed. Our seaweed has vast concentrations of minerals and vitamins, indispensable for the improvement of our biological functions. The seaweed is crushed and micropolverized and then added to sea water in hydromassage and compresses. Sea water and seaweed are an exceptional cocktail producing a equilibrating, tonic invigorating and detoxifying effect.
