Petit St. Vincent Private Island

Petit St. Vincent Private Island

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Petit St.Vincent (better known locally as PSV) lies 40 miles south of St.Vincent in the Grenadines; a group of islands sprinkled across what may be the most beautiful stretch of water in the Caribbean. Part of the Windward Island chain, the Grenadines drift southwesterly from St. Vincent, the largest of more than 30 islands that make up the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. PSV is a paradise of softly rolling hills spread over 115 acres surrounded by two miles of white sand beaches, PSV has been tamed just enough to allow for the presence of 22 discreet and simple, yet luxurious cottages. Lying well off the tourist mainstream, PSV could be best described by what is not there. There is no airport, no formal check in, no keys. There are no televisions nor are there telephones in the cottages. Experience Caribbean tranquility. Above all however, there is privacy. Here, amid untouched nature and surrounded by warm, crystal-clear, turquoise water, one senses that the island is one’s own. The truly hermitic guest need never meet another visitor. Room service is available for all meals, either in your own cottage or at any other location on the island. Most guests however, choose to make use of the resort’s beautiful bar and dining room for at least some of their meals. Distinct from many Caribbean resorts, Petit St. Vincent is not part of a hotel chain. Rather, it is a legacy of the personal vision of the late Hazen K. Richardson II. The story begins in 1963 when Haze, fresh out of the US Air Force, purchased the 77-foot schooner JACINTA with his old flying buddy Doug Terman, and the two headed south from New York. Along the way they met an agent who agreed to sell charters on their yacht, and they picked up their first customer in Grenada -- Mr. H.W. Nichols and family. During this three-week cruise, Mr. Nichols expressed interest in purchasing an island and building a small hotel. With this in mind, Haze and Doug concentrated their search in the Grenadines. Anchoring off then-uninhabited Petit St. Vincent, they quickly saw its potential. Haze worked over many years to supervise the management and construction of the resort. In May 1966, Haze and Doug returned to Petit St. Vincent to clear the land, during which time they lived on JACINTA for seven months, catching their meals fresh from the sea. Although the initial plan had been to find a manager for the hotel before completion in December 1968, since one had not been appointed Mr. Nichols asked Haze to stay on as a "temporary" manager. Haze did so and never left, eventually becoming the full owner of Petit St. Vincent with its award-winning boutique hotel with 22 independent cliff-side and beach front cottages. In January 2007, Robin Paterson was sailing through the Grenadines on his yacht ZANZIBAR when he first spotted Petit St. Vincent, and immediately fell in love with the Island. By coincidence, two years later Robin's friend Phil Stephenson, also sailed past the island on GALILEO and also became infatuated with its charm and beauty. With such strong mutual interest, Robin and Phil resolved to purchase this spectacular island and to invest in it in order to realise its full potential. Already described in many "Top 10 lists" as the perfect hideaway resort, the two friends planned to bring this property into a class of its own in terms of natural beauty, architectural finishes, sports and leisure activities, food, wine and service excellence. Their tenacity eventually paid off and in November 2010, Phil and Robin bought the freehold to the 115 acre private island. The new owners' vision includes upgrading the existing cottages and building a casual beach restaurant and spa.

Plaza Athénée

Plaza Athénée

Paris, France
In 1852, the Emperor Napoléon III commissioned Georges Haussmann to transform Paris, a quiet medieval city, into a modern and bustling capital which would enjoy world-wide recognition. During this period, many unique hotels were built which have today become symbols of traditional French style. In 1911, at 25 Avenue Montaigne, the Plaza Athénée opened at the same time as the nearby Theatre des Champs Elysées: the hotel soon became the gathering place for the most prominent composers and performers of the day. By 1936, the hotel had achieved international fame. The Galerie des Gobelins and the restaurant, its salons and apartments hosted many great personalities of this period including Joséphine Baker, Rudolph Valentino and Maurice Chevalier. When Christian Dior opened on Avenue Montaigne in close proximity to the Plaza Athénée, a new era began. Avenue Montaigne quickly turned into the avenue of ‘haute couture’, and the Plaza Athénée became Paris’ focus for fashion and the arts. In the past, the Plaza Athénée has hosted such famous guests as Grace Kelly, Gary Cooper, Jackie Kennedy and the Ford family. The Plaza Athénée has now become a landmark. Since the beginning of year 2000, the complete refurbishment of the Plaza Athénée has combined its traditional classical style with the most modern technology, further enhancing its already legendary reputation as one of the great hotels of the world. Recently renovated and scented with the unique fragrance of amber, the hotel's 146 spacious rooms and 45 suites are a showcase of French taste at its very best. Punta Tragara

Punta Tragara

Capri, Italy
Some places hold a very special type of fascination. Almost always they are places of indescribable beauty, because whatever words you choose will fail to convey the sensations aroused in you. The Punta Tragara Hotel is one such jewel, standing as it does in a unique location overlooking the blue Capri sea right at the legendary Faraglioni cliffs. This extraordinary and unique setting, together with the hotel’s striking architecture, a creation of the genius of Le Corbusier, can now be admired from recently refurbished splendor, thanks to which the hotel blends in with nature even more harmonically, respecting and enhancing the island’s uncontaminated beauty. An iconic salmon colored building, in a stunning setting - this is the Punta Tragara Hotel. In the 1920s the great Swiss Architect, Le Corbusier assisted in the design of the villa which was to become the Punta Tragara Hotel, and to epitomize the elegance and allure that is Capri. The site is one of the most perfect on Capri - not too close, not too far from the frenetic streets of the town, a fifteen minute saunter along the beautiful Via Tragara. The location is dramatic, with amazing panoramic views out over the Faraglioni rocks and the azure sea. The architect took full advantage of the unique site. There are great picture windows in the public rooms, and balconies to all the 43 rooms. The terraces and exclusive pools have stunning views. Décor and furnishing is a deft mix of striking contemporary and classic. In the rooms, elegant antiques combine with every modern facility. When not dipping into the buzz of the town or enjoying a wonderful scenic stroll, guests can enjoy relaxing in one of the two swimming pools or luxuriate in the selection of face and body treatments offered in the wellness center. Guests dine on excellent Mediterranean cuisine in the Punta Tragara Hotel's Monzù Restaurant or in the more informal restaurant by the pool, a great place for watching sunsets over the sea. Hotel Punta Tragara is situated right next to the Belvedere di Punta Tragara, from where to admire a magnificent view of the Capri's legendary Faraglioni, the Bay of Marina Piccola and a glimpse or two of Capri's picturesque town center. To reach the hotel, guests walk along one of the island of Capri's most attractive pathways, where to observe spectacular displays of brightly colored Mediterranean flowers, cascading over the walls of some of the island's most beautiful residential properties.
